Painting: Anime Gemelle Sotto la Luna Viola

This was the 1st painting ever completed in my new studio at my house. Having the new freedom of making a big mess, I was able to use water freely to disperse the pigments. So I could color-wash the canvas and also spray watercolor washes over the wet paint. These are some of the ways I free to use different methods with paint and canvas and get a new look and express a more subtle and nuanced feeling.

The idea of this painting is a cosmic view of the connection between people. There are so many unseen things in our world, including the bonds between us that are impossible to explain rationally. Forces are at work within us and around us which draw us to certain people. Distance between one soul and another cannot stop the energy present in the connection. This is the whole idea of soulmates… that they are connected outside of the physical realm. There are many senses available to us, well beyond touch, taste, sight, hearing and taste. And there are many forms of communication that far exceed speech and body language.

And so you may understand that this painting depicts more than the night sky. It is the unspoken words, the unexpressed feelings, the quiet knowing of a shared experience between kindred spirits. The English translation of this Italian title is ‘Soulmates Under the Violet Moon’.
