Cycles of great outer change often begin with changes in the inner world, the unseen things; Priorities, perspectives, perceived possibilities, values and expectations.
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. “
When I first painted this piece, in October 2020, I didn’t write anything about it. I just simply posted it with its title and measurements. I felt, at the time, the way I look in the picture. I’ll leave that to your interpretation. Lets just say emotions were high. I knew in time I would get perspective and be able to look at things in a different way. This is because in times of sadness, there is always the proverbial sun getting ready to come up over the horizon.
In this life, one of the hardest things is to freely let go of the people you love when they choose to go. You must allow others to choose what is best for themselves, to take a path that may not include you. If you love them, let them go… this is the basic emotional energy of the painting.
Title: Hope & Despair
Completion Date: October 13, 2020
Looking back at the creation of this painting brings back the same feelings of grief. People extol the virtues of the low times in life as necessary to appreciate the best times. Personally, I could happily dispense with life’s unfairness and irony in exchange for hope and togetherness.
